Doctors are forced to adapt their health discourses to the new requests of the domain because recent discoveries have shown that drug addicts cannot be convinced through scare tactics to give up their destructive habits. These methods are inefficient because they somehow force the patient to quit, whereas, according to recent studies, the desire to change must come from the patient.
The patient will not find the necessary power to restrain from drug use by simply stressing the negative effects of illegal substances on his/her body. On short term, scare tactics are great because they have such a strong impact on the patient that he decides to quit drugs. On the long run, however, the patient fails to keep his/her promise because he/she lacks psychological support.
Most of the times, patients are pushed by various negative influences to consume drugs, therefore, an efficient health campaign will root out the evil by eliminating these factors. Smokers, for instance, find it hard to sit by themselves without lighting up a cigarette; other times, it is our connections that determine us to use illegal substances. Given that 40 respondents out of 50 have confessed that they cannot give up drinking alcohol because they often feel the need to drink a glass of wine while lying in front of the TV, it becomes necessary to dismantle such destructive habits through health campaigns.
If you want to succeed in determining your patients to replace their destructive habits with healthier ones, the health campaign has to be able to address these issues and to propose solutions. For example, you may prevent people from lighting up a cigarette by offering them a stress-relief toy which they can use during the moments of loneliness. Similarly, the consumption of alcohol in front of the TV may be replaced with a bottle of natural juice and thus, you eliminate the custom that prevents patients from quitting.
Positive words and verb actions are the keys to a successful health campaign because patients often need encouragements in order to gain their self-confidence. It is advisable, however, to provide drug addicts the necessary information they need to know about the drug rehab clinics because these places are the only ones that can offer them the professional support they need.
