Alcohol Abuse Affects Relationships

Alcohol abuse is a serious problem that a lot of people tend to suffer from not only in the United States but around the world. There are a lot of people who think that alcoholism or the addiction to alcohol can lead not only to a person’s self-destruction but also to alienation towards others. Drunkenness can make people lash out towards others usually the ones closest to themselves.

Majority of the victims of domestic violence according to a recent study are the relatives of an alcoholic. The violence is varied from case to case. There are some alcoholics who ruin their relationships with their spouses through physical violence. Children have it the hardest. Some of the children of alcoholics usually experience physical abuse. Other children also experience sexual violence in their own homes. Worst of all, these children will not only have to carry the physical scars of their experience but would also have to carry the emotional and mental trauma brought about by the experience.

A person who has shown signs of addiction to alcohol or alcoholism will also seem distant and aloof when sober. There are also some cases where the patient has hard time admitting to themselves that they are indeed suffering from alcoholism. Patients who suffer from alcohol abuse often tend to act reckless and remorseless. They do not care about themselves and either intentional or unintentionally hurts their loved ones putting too much strain for their partners and family.

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol addiction is also called alcoholism. It is a form of disorder that is addictive in nature which is evidenced by the lack of control of the alcohol consumer over the consumption of alcohol substance, even with the knowledge of the side effects that such excessive consumption of the product might have over the person as regards general health, the way such a person will be viewed by the society, and on the possible negative effects on his relationships. Since it is characterized by a lack of self-control, it is rated as a disease medically, but the good news is that it is treatable, just like any other drug addition. The term alcohol addiction is a term that has evolved over the years and names like; alcoholism, alcohol dependence, and alcohol abuse has been used to describe the syndrome at different times in history, but alcohol dependence seems to be the most recently favored term in medical circles. The reason for the names that the syndrome is called is supposedly informed by the desire of medical practitioners to reduce the stigmatization that is often associated with an alcohol addictive person.

The state of alcohol addiction as I have stated earlier is one that goes with certain negative effects to the health of the alcohol drinker.  The consumption of alcohol is that which has a negative effect on virtually every organ that the human body is made of, and it can result in a variety of both psychiatric and medical conditions if not checked timely, as the negative effects that is noticeable in the body and brain of the alcohol addictive is one that will result from the accumulation of the toxic components of that alcohol is made of.

The over consumption of alcohol is one condition that does not just come about, it has certain underpinning factors. Some of such factors that usually leads to alcohol addition, (though they may be termed uncertain, they are visible in most cases) include; the genetic disposition of the consumer, the state of the sufferers mental health, the effect that the social environment has on the alcohol abuser which actually lead him to the state, and stress that such a person might be subjected to either at work, home or in relationships. Other factors that seem to be underlying include; age, sex, and the ethnic group that the alcohol addictive belongs to.

Taking Measures to Prevent Child Abuse

Child abuse is the term used for torturing the child either physically, emotionally or sexually. Abusing a child physically means hitting him, or beating or slapping him, whereas abusing emotionally means scolding him all the time or yelling at him and making him feel down all the time. Many times the child abuse is the result of the parents own anger, which they take off at their innocent children. Sexually abusing a child means forcing him into sexual activity. All these may be very destructive for a child’s behavior, his attitude and will eventually destroy his future, as the child may be subjected to inferiority complex. There are many children who come out of this torture after some time, but there are many of them left to face all the pains and sufferings, until the torture affects their mental stability or their psychological behavior.

Child abuse is a matter that is discussed on international level and many steps are being taken on government and non government levels to prevent it. For those, who have already been affected by this torture, may be treated by a number of therapies and treatments. However, these therapies are not always successful. It all depends on the level of trauma, the child has suffered. Sometimes the painful experience has affected the brain so badly that these therapies also fail to work. This is why, it is said that prevention is better than cure.

Preventing child abuse is not a one man business. The whole society will have to work together to bring the results. In fact, each individual should take a step on his own to take measures for preventing it. Although treatment is helpful, but why see a child being tortured severely and then take the action to treat him. There are many organizations working for this purpose , and every person can play his role in preventing child abuse, by helping such organizations, some or the other way.
