Signs of Smoking Oxycontin

Oxycodone is a medicine that relieves pain with strong narcotic effects and is a cough medication similar to codeine, hydrocodone, and morphine. This medication does not take away the feelings of pain but it diminishes discomfort by increasing pain tolerance. Aside from these, oxycodone also makes people sedated and depresses respiratory functions. In 1976, the FDA approved this drug. However, the most common side effects of oxycodone include constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, nausea, rashes, sedation, sweating and vomiting.

This drug is potentially habit forming. It can be crushed, mixed in water, swallowed, snorted, and injected to a person. Oxycontin is safe when taken in normal doses, but crushing or mixing this drug in water can cause a quick and powerful effect similar to a heroin high. There will be signs of smoking Oxycontin when one feels the same “high.”

In fact, there are people in the nation, who have replaced the latter with the former. Mental and physical dependence for the drug can happen, but this rarely happens if used as a temporary relief from pain. If one suddenly stops using oxycodone after extensive use, that person may suffer withdrawal symptoms.

By slowly reducing the dosage of oxycodone, withdrawal symptoms can be avoided. Those who become dependent on this drug may have greater tolerance to Oxycontin after being exposed repeatedly, making the user take higher doses of this drug to get the euphoric “high” that he or she wants. If Oxycontin dependents miss a significant dosage of this drug, withdrawal symptoms may happen very quickly.

Like other narcotics in the market that are used for personal purposes, substance abusers of Oxycontin usually ground the tablets into powder and smoke the drug to achieve a swifter and euphoric high compared with orally taking the drug. Though taking it orally it the most common method, smoking Oxycontin is only preferred by addicts who take the drug for its blissful effect. Addiction to it is very immediate. These are classic signs of smoking Oxycontin, which is such an addictive drug.

By injecting or inhaling Oxycontin and further signs of smoking Oxycontin can elevate the psychological characteristic of the addiction. Injecting or breathing in the drug rather than ingesting, achieves a much more potent effect than orally taking pills or swallowing capsules. Signs of smoking Oxycontin can be eradicated if one can avoid smoking Oxycontin because of the dire consequences. If Oxycontin addicts are remiss with their medication, constipation, nausea, or vomiting may appear as side effects. Other manifestations of Oxycontin dependence may also include headaches or dry mouth in many individuals.

Addiction to oxycodone happens if the person alters the prescription or his doctor’s orders, or if there were no prescription, he would buy it anyway resulting in his addiction to Oxycontin. Oxycodone dependence can linger for years and those who are addicted to the drug will persist in taking it despite grave effects. There will be problems when one undergoes withdrawal symptoms, like anxiety, diarrhea, cramping, especially in the legs, nausea, muscle and restlessness if ever he or she stops taking drugs.
