Stop Drinking Advice -The Path To Curing Addiction

Step number one in making that decision on giving up alcohol is just that…making the decision to give up. The hardest part is just getting there and having that feeling that you can really do it. It’s time for a bit of positive thinking and setting your own goals to give up alcohol. If you have this quite clear in your mind the next step is just to throw out any booze you might have hanging around the house as you just won’t be needing that any more.

It is imperative that you hold firm and keep on course and this can only be achieved if your initial goals are firmly set out. If you manage this you will have less chance of bailing out and depriving yourself of a new happy life and a new beginning for a happier family relationship.

By continuing to drink you are compromising your children’s college fund, your wife having to move up to full time to make ends meet, helping your parents out with medical bills, the car parked in your driveway…even the roof over you head. Is a drink worth all of that?

The other side of the coin of course are the problems that this addiction can bring in the workplace and more serious still is that you are discovered. You wouldn’t last 5 minutes with all the strain of the feeling of being persecuted by your fellow colleagues and if you could, well you would no doubt end up losing your position. Without a job it is extremely difficult to support both a family and a drinking problem, so why not use your head as you really can do without that sort of stress and that sort of decision…drink or family?

Your social standing could fall. This could mean more than simply your friends turning away from you. If your addiction is well known, it will affect how your children’s teachers see you, your landlord, and even your banker may not want to give you that loan you might need.

The most important thing is when dealing with quitting alcohol is simply mind over matter and that means forgetting about the dreaded bottle and start focusing on more important things in life. Get out jogging or go for long walks and if you can with a close friend and don’t forget about the variety of activities that you can do with your own kids. That also brings to mind that your partner could do with a hand too, so start being more active in the kitchen and you will soon get alcohol out of your head.
