A real chain smoker cannot just say, “Today, I will quit smoking.”, and be able to quit smoking without any difficulty. Smoking is a behavior that is learned by the mind which the body would eventually begin to love. Because of this, a smoker would feel dependence to cigarette smoking. This dependence is caused by two things: nicotine addiction and addiction to the act of cigarette smoking. In most cases, anyone who is addicted to the act of smoking is also addicted to nicotine. It is almost impossible that someone who is constantly engulfing nicotine will not become addicted to it since nicotine is naturally an addictive substance.

Nicotine is introduced to the smoker’s body through the smoke that is ingested into his or her lungs. A regular smoker is then very likely to be addicted to nicotine already. Unfortunately, it is the addiction to nicotine that would push a smoker to continue puffing more sticks despite having the knowledge that the combustion produced by lighting and puffing a cigarette stick will produce two kinds of smokes that can eventually kill him or her and the people surrounding him or her. It is also nicotine that makes a chain smoker who already has problems with his or her respiratory system to neglect his or her medical condition and continue burning tobacco into his or her lungs. The bottom line is, overcoming nicotine addiction or at least, finding an alternate source of nicotine can greatly improve the success rate of the smoker’s goal to finally quit smoking and save himself or herself from all the diseases that smoking brings.

A professional therapist may be able to help the smoker to get rid of nicotine addiction. The professional can be a great help because the inputs that one can get from him or her can be really helpful in stopping oneself from crawling back into the addiction after just a couple of days. The therapist can prescribe to the smoker the medications that he or she needs in order to keep him or herself into the quitting process.

A therapist might simply give him or her prescription that would provide him or her nicotine that he or she is badly craving for. The therapist may allow him or her to use nicotine patches or chew nicotine gums, in controlled amounts of course. In other cases, the therapist would prescribe a drug that is designed to counter the withdrawal symptoms that the smoker would experience. The drug may be an anti-depressant drug that would provide the smoker with enough endorphins. Another way to provide the body with sufficient amounts of endorphin is through laser treatment. Low grade laser is beamed through select portions of the body in order to catalyze endorphin production.

The medications are often anti depression drugs that provide the body with endorphin. Sometimes, the therapist would use low grade laser to catalyze the natural production of endorphin in the smoker’s body. Alternative nicotine sources include nicotine patches and nicotine gums.
